Pat Hough's family photos:
(LHS) Richard Cross and Ellen (Thompson) Brogden. Richard was born in Balderstone and Ellen was born in Salford. Both lost their first spouses when they were still very young. They were living at 76 St. Hubert Street, Great Harwood in 1891 and four of their ten children were born there. Richard was an Overlooker.
Richard's first wife was Sarah Alice Smith who was born in Ramsgreave. Sarah Alice's parents were Thomas Smith and Mary Walmsley. The Walmsley family lived for decades at Flash Gate, Ramsgreave and the Smith family were living next door in the 1861 census. Sarah Alice's grandfathers were Christopher Walmsley and Robert Smith.
(RHS) The second image is of Ellen Cross, the daughter of Richard Cross and Sarah Alice Smith. She was born Nov. 30th 1877.
She and her husband Joseph Arnold emigrated to Canada in 1908.

James Starkie, born 19 January 1875 Great Harwood, died Brierfield 3 April 1958.
Parents Thomas Starkie (b Blackburn 1850) & Elizabeth Walton (b Wiswell 1847). Between 1881 & 1891 the family moved to Burnley, and then to Brierfield. James worked as a railway porter. He married Edith Phillpotts in 1898, they were married for almost 57 years.
